Webinar: Unpacking Accommodation and Higher Everyday Living Fee (HELF) Charges

How do you deliver high-quality care under the new human rights based Aged Care Act while working effectively within the government’s funding model? How do you ensure care recipients and advocates feel supported, while balancing financial realities?
We’re hosting a webinar with ACCPA (soon to be Ageing Australia) on February 13: Unpacking Accommodation and Higher Everyday Living Fee (HELF) Charges
Date: Thursday, 13 February 2025
Time: 1-2pm (AEDT)
Presenters: Bruce Bailey and Megan White
This webinar will explore the interaction of the new human rights based aged care act, a safety net government funding model and the expectations of baby boomers either as care recipients or advocates for care recipients. The learnings from the session will include why the system that Government is funding leaves a significant gap with consumer expectations and how providers' business models can and should respond to this gap.
Participants will gain an in-depth appreciation for the value of HELF services and higher standard accommodation and how these contribute to a higher quality of life that is envisaged under the human rights based aged care act, as opposed to the medical model that existed under the 1997 Act. A key learning will be the distinction between price and affordability and the drivers of quality of life.
Key issues we'll explore:
✓ What contributes to quality of life for older Australians
✓ The gap between basic fees and consumer expectations
✓ How HELF bridges the gap
✓ Cost vs. affordability considerations
✓ Why higher accommodation charges benefit consumers
✓ How accommodation charges relate to living in the community
